CommuniGate Pro - FAQ

All information is subject to change

1. Is there an easy way to create accounts for teachers on the new system?

Yes. A tab delimited text file can be created and imported into your district mail directory.
2. Do we still need teacher forms and signatures to send to hcca?
No. You have complete administrative access to your accounts. Teacher forms and signatures are no longer necessary.
3. Will students accounts be created in the same system as teachers?
Yes. Student accounts will be created on the same system as teacher accounts. When creating the account, enter "student" in the Position text box. Enter "no" in the PPP text box.
4. How will i create ppp access for teachers?
When creating an account, you will have to option to give PPP access to a user. This can be done by entering "yes" in the PPP text box.
5. How will i log in to my dialup account?
At the present time, you can log into your dialup account the same way you always have. Your new PPP username and password will be your email account name and email password. Both usernames will be active after an account has been created on the CGP server.
6. When will my old dialup username and password quit working?
We aren't sure at this time but your old dialup username and password will work for a long time. You will also have access to your new dialup username and password. (see #5)
7. Will my old saved messages be moved to my new email account?
Yes. All mail residing in your "old" account will be migrated to your new account. This also means that all folders and messages will migrate to the new account in the same directory order.
8. Will i still be subscribed to my listservs?
You will need to re-subscribe to your listservs using your new email address. However, mail sent to your "old" account can be forwarded temporarily to your new account so you will not miss any important mail during this transition.
9. Will i still be on the state distribution lists?
This will be an option when your mail is migrated from the "old" server to the new server.
10. When our domain was created, Position and PPP configuration was not available. Will I have to go through every user account to enter that information?
Unfortunately, yes. The Internet Team will be happy to assist.
11. How do I send mail to everyone in my district?
It is not necessary to set up a listserv for sending mail to everyone in your district. This can be done by sending mail to "all@yourdomain.name"
12. How long will my HCCA account work?
Your HCCA account will not be accessible after January 1, 2003. However, your H/CCA address will be valid for an indefinite period of time. This means that a user could send email to your H/CCA address and you will receive it on your new address - mail is forwarded from your H/CCA account to your new account during the migration process and this forwarding will work indefinitely.
13. If I want to use Outlook Express to access my new email account, how do I configure the servers?
You can set up your new email account on Outlook Express or other IMAP clients. Your IMAP and SMTP servers will be "mail.domain.name" (ex. mail.goshenlocalschools.org)
14. If I want to add another email administrator, how do I set up an account?
Someone on H/CCA's Internet Team will have to set up an administration account - mail administrators do not have access to create those accounts. A request in email will be fine - no paperwork is necessary.
