Equipment - none Grade Level - K-2 Have the students spread out in playing area and face the instructor. By signaling with the arms which way to move, the students will follow the instructor by side-stepping in the correct directions. Side-stepping to the right is "ship" and side-stepping to the left is "shore." These verbal cues should also be given with arm signals. After side-stepping several times, and you can make this a fun part of the game by being creative!, call out "Fish Gobbler!" All students must lie flat on the floor and be connected to another "fish" (by grabbing an ankle, hand, leg, etc.). While the students are busy trying to find someone to "hook up" with, the instructor becomes the fish gobbler and "threatens" to eat any fish who are alone while moving around the "ocean full of fish." My little ones just love this activity. They scream with delight when I yell "Fish Gobbler" and they get a good work-out with all of the side-stepping.
