     Invent a Game

Sports

Grade Level - 6-9

Equipment - various

Divide the class into groups of 3 or 4. Provide 7-10 different pieces of equipment for the groups to choose from. They will also need pencil and paper.

Each group is to invent a game that is age appropriate (if they want to invent a game for younger children, that's fine). It must also be safe.

The games must be original. Each group writes down the:

     1.  Name of the game
     2.  Grade level
     3.  Equipment needed
     4.  Rules

Each group will present their game to the class. The class decides which game they would like to play during the next class.

NOTE:  Make sure you check the games closely. Question the students on rules, safety measures, and verify that it is not a game that already exists.

This activity gives students experience in deciding what is age appropriate, safety factors, group presentations and all the things involved in setting up for a Physical Education class. My kids came up with some great games and had a lot of fun with this activity.
