Equipment: 4 sets of different colored pinnies, 4 hula hoops, 4 balls, cones Divide the class into 4 teams, and divide the playing area into 4 squares using the cones. Each team "owns" their own square. A ball is placed inside a hula hoop in the far corner of each square. Each team has one player designated to guard the ball. The object of the game is for each team to try to steal any opponent's ball and return it to their hoop without being tagged. If a player is tagged in another team's territory, that player must sit or squat down and is frozen. A team member can rescue this player by tagging him/her. Then both players are free to re-enter the game. If the tagged player is carrying a ball, the ball must be placed back in the hoop. Other Rules: 1. Players may not kick the ball. This is a great game for grades 3-8. It can also be adapted for different sports by using different balls. (soccer, football, basketball, etc.) This game was developed by Barbara Cavanaugh and Michael King of Harrisonburg, Virginia.
