Equipment - 2 basketballs, one basketball hoop, and 30-40 polyspots of different colors, one foam die, pencil, and paper.. Grade level - 3-12 Split class into two teams. Each team stands on a sideline facing the basket. Randomly toss polyspots in the half court area of the basket being used (keep the polyspots closer for younger ages). Each team has one basketball. On your signal, the first person on each team takes their basketball, and shoots from the polyspot of their choice. If the basket is made, that person picks up the polyspot and brings it back to their team, handing the basketball off to the next person in line. If the shot is missed, the shooter hands the basketball off to the next person in line. When all or most of the polyspots have been picked up, stop the game. Gather the teams together with their collected polyspots. Choose a student to toss the die, and choose a polyspot color. When the die is tossed, the number that shows up will be the number of points that the polyspot color is worth. Continue until you have a point value for each color. Then have the teams total their points. This game allows for shooting practice, and the closest shots are not
always worth the least number of points. It also incorporates math
skills into the activity.
