Below are some ideas for Field Day. If you would like to
contribute an idea, please send
me email. I will post your idea, if appropriate, along with your name
and school.
I would like to thank those who have been so gracious
and allowed me to post their ideas.
During my 8 years at Little Flower School, we held what
were called "Olympic Days." We modified the activities and the
award system every year. The following are some of the activities that
were very popular with the students. The following were submitted by the Webmaster.
- Tug of War - This was just the basic idea of
Tug-of-War. It was done on the football field. The competition was
between students and teachers.
- Team Water-Volleyball - This is a volleyball game
with some "minor" changes. Instead of using a ball, we used
a water-filled balloon. Each team had a large towel or sheet and, with
cooperative effort, tried to catch the water balloon in the sheet and
throw it back over the net. The kids absolutely loved this -especially
on a hot day.
- Oyster Dive - Fill a medium sized plastic swimming
pool with mud (or sand if you want to keep it cleaner). Hide marbles
and let the kids "fish" for the marbles. We also hid a
special treasure - usually a coin or a golf ball. Whoever found this
special treasure received more points.
- Stilts race - We made stilts out of large empty food
cans (given to us by the cafeteria staff)
- Obstacle course run - We constructed an obstacle
course out of tunnels, refrigerator boxes, saw-horses,
cones....anything we could find that would create an interesting
section of an obstacle course.
- We also did some of the basic contests - softball
throw, sprints, distance runs, etc.
